The draft Yarrabah statutory planning scheme envisions numerous new and emerging small enterprises and, in the absence of any actual land use studies, allocates the Nursery (Balamba) Road area (below) to be Yarrabah's enterprise precinct
Note: for anyone going through the draft planning scheme, the area shown above is colored a bright yellow (enterprise precinct) in long term (20 year) mapping, but it is here colored a more unfortunate, much duller grey to signal that actual enterprise development will be more immediately 'on hold' until such time as some land use studies and structure plans are developed.
One Balamba based residents and social entrepreneur has, over recent times, variously responded to Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Counicl expressions of interest or tendering processes submitting a number of enterprise proposals for the Balamba area which, when put together, actually starts looking a little like the beginnings of land use planning, and beginnings of structure planning for this proposed enterprise precinct (see below)
After searching through the contents page and after eventually finding 'emerging communities zoning code' under other zones, we were more than a little surprised to find nearly all of this social entrepreneur's enterprise proposals, including horticultural proposals, animal husbandy proposals, food and drink outlet proposals and more all seemed to be classed 'inconsistent uses' until such time as studies are done and structure plans are produced, if and when such studies and plans are ever produced! (See snapshot of the relevant inconsistent uses table below)
